Assessment
In our Reception class, children are assessed primarily through ongoing, day-to-day observation. Our skilled practitioners carefully watch how children play, explore, and engage with activities, using these insights to plan next steps and support each child’s learning journey.
Alongside this continuous formative assessment, there are two key statutory assessments in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS):
- Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA) – carried out within the first six weeks of starting Reception. This provides a starting point for measuring progress through primary school.
- EYFS Profile – completed at the end of Reception, this summarises each child’s development across all areas of learning and is shared with parents and Year 1 teachers.
These assessments help us ensure every child is supported, celebrated, and ready for the next stage of their learning.
