Reading
In Reception, children embark on an exciting journey to become a fluent, confident reader who loves books!
We teach phonics using the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised programme.
Reading is so much more than decoding words—it builds vocabulary, deepens understanding of the world, and nurtures empathy. Research shows that a love of reading is one of the strongest predictors of future academic success, and we are committed to fostering that love every day.
In school, children practise phonics daily, blending sounds to read words and developing fluency.
At home, you can support by:
- Listening to your child read their practice book every day.
- Enjoying their sharing book together.
- Talking about the pictures, predicting what might happen next, and—most importantly—making reading fun!
