Welcome to Reception!

We’re proud to offer a rich and nurturing environment where children learn through play, exploration, and carefully planned activities led by skilled practitioners. Our phonics programme helps spark a love of reading, and every experience is designed to help children grow in confidence, learn new skills, and remember more as they progress through their learning journey.

In Reception, children focus on three prime areas of learning:

• Communication and Language
• Personal, Social and Emotional Development
• Physical Development

These are supported by four specific areas of learning:

• Literacy
• Mathematics
• Understanding the World
• Expressive Arts and Design

Together, these areas help build a strong foundation for future learning through play, exploration, and meaningful experiences.

All areas of the Foundation Stage are part of the rich, hands-on learning in our Reception classroom. Children enjoy exploring not only our indoor space, but also our outdoor classroom and covered veranda. These exciting spaces give children plenty of room to play, learn, and explore – rain or shine!

We’re lucky to have access to a wide range of school facilities that enrich our Reception learning experience. Alongside our classroom spaces, children enjoy PE in the sports hall, outdoor learning on the school field, and a well-stocked library filled with fiction and non-fiction books. We also gather in the hall for assemblies, helping children feel part of the wider school community as they grow and learn.

Alongside myself, the children will be supported by our teaching assistants, Miss Baldwyn and Miss Kitson. Ms Cox will be facilitating our outdoor learning this year. We are also pleased to welcome Miss Scruby, who will be joining us in the Autumn and Summer term to complete her teacher training. 

I’m incredibly proud and excited to be leading the Reception team this year. It’s a true privilege to guide and support the youngest members of our school as they begin their learning journey—our future in the making!
