Reading in the Early Years
Enjoying books and reading stories from a very early age is crucial in the development of children. It helps with their ability to understand words, use their imagination and develop their speech, as well as being something that they really enjoy.
During the first five years of a child's life, they will make the most rapid development. During these early years, we as teachers, parents, grandparents and carers, all need to play a role in helping to build the foundations or building blocks for life!
As well as developing a love of books and reading for pleasure, it also helps them to develop spelling, listening, writing, literacy as well social skills.
