Welcome to Reception!
Whether you have joined us from our School Nursery or from further afield, we aim to make the transition from nursery to full time schooling as smooth as possible for your child.
At Welford School we are lucky to have a team of enthusiastic and dedicated staff in our Reception classroom. The team is led by myself, Mrs Jackson, a qualified teacher and teaching assistants;
Ms Chalk and Mrs Bonham.
Our curriculum – The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)- focusses on developing children’s phonics, reading, writing and maths skills; whilst also building on personal, social, emotional and language skills which children begin to develop in nursery. We deliver our curriculum through a mixture of adult directed activities and child initiated learning, operating a free-flow system, so that children are able to access the outdoor classroom every day. Topics are built around children’s interests and there are lots of opportunities to develop our imaginations, as well as our scientific and artistic skills. Please take a look at our curriculum map to see what we are learning about this term.
As if that wasn’t busy enough- we teach twice weekly PE sessions, as well as forest school sessions on a Wednesday afternoon, led by our forest school leader Mrs Johnson.
I know I speak for myself and the reception team when I say what a privilege it is to be able to support your child on their first exciting step into school life. We hope you enjoy the journey – it sure will be fun!
