Welcome to Reception!
Whether you have joined us from our School Nursery or from further afield, we aim to make the transition from nursery to full time schooling as smooth as possible for your child.
At Welford School we are lucky to have a team of enthusiastic and dedicated staff in our Reception classroom. The team is led by myself, Mrs Cowley, a qualified teacher and teaching assistants; Mrs Bonham, Mrs Mulliner and Mrs Courbet.
Our curriculum – The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)- focusses on developing children’s phonics, reading, writing and maths skills; whilst also building on personal, social, emotional and language skills which children begin to develop in nursery. We deliver our curriculum through a mixture of adult directed activities and child initiated learning, operating a free-flow system, so that children are able to access the outdoor classroom every day. Topics are adapted around children’s interests and there are lots of opportunities to develop our imaginations, as well as our scientific and artistic skills. Please take a look at our long term plan to see what we are learning about this term.
Each week we have 2 PE lessons (on Monday and Wednesday) and each Friday we have forest school sessions, led by our forest school leader Mrs Johnson.
It is a privilege to support your child on their first exciting step into school life and we look forward to sharing with you the amazing progress that your child will make over the coming year.
