Welcome to Year 4!
Firstly, I’d like to introduce my fabulous and dedicated Year 4 team this year. I am supported by Mrs Verstraeten who is a highly experienced teaching assistant and we have Mr Wadham who is a School Direct student. Mrs Verstraeten will also be covering my PPA time and Mrs Hinton will teach a group of children in our Forest School area each week.
We have an exciting and varied curriculum to look forward to over the course of Year 4. In Mathematics, we will continue to reinforce number, measurement, geometry and statistics; children’s understanding in these areas will be consolidated through logical reasoning and problem solving activities.
In Science, children will be working scientifically in order to investigate living things and animals (including humans), they will learn how to make circuits in electricity and explore sound.
Our Enquiry topic areas this year include Volcanoes and Earthquakes, Victorian life and the Egyptians.
Throughout the year we will use our ever-evolving writing skills to present our ideas in Enquiry and Science using a variety of genre including persuasive writing, non-chronological reports and explanations. We will also allow our topics to influence our fictitious writing to include stories with historical settings and narrative poetry.
We will endeavour to take a cross-curricular approach to many of the non-core subjects using our Enquiry topic area as a stimulus. Please find greater detail in the long term plan below.
It's a privilege to be teaching your children and I know that all of the Year 4 team are looking forward to supporting your children as they continue their journey at Welford on Avon Primary School.
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to speak to myself or a member of the Year 4 staff.
